The Rocky Path - The story behind

The Rocky Path - The story behind

This is my favorite painting. That I made myself, that is. I should probably keep it for myself, but I don’t feel like hanging my own art at home.

So I was walking my husband and the dog, and as they headed up in front of me, the sun was shining on the rocky path they were walking down. And I immediately knew this was a painting. I did take a photo of it, but as you know, they never capture what you see. So I used the picture as a reminder, but really painted a lot from memory. And this was done the days following this image.

I had about 2 months to paint 10 large paintings for my exhibition, and this one came right at the end of this stretch. So I was really warm on this subject, and my memory was fresh. So it painted itself almost, in 2 days straight. And i loved it. It was one of those paintings that didn’t need any fidgeting at the end.

I love the fresh paintstrokes, and the exaggerated colors on some of the trees.

It’s important though, not to include husband and dog, as I always feel like people get all the attention. And as much as I love them, they were not the main subject this time ;)

Thank you for listening!
